How the numbers work

Walmart bills WFS on shipping weight, not the scale weight. Items under 1 lb use unit weight. From 1 lb up, Walmart uses whichever is greater, the unit weight or the dimensional weight (length × width × height in inches ÷ 139). It then adds 0.25 lb for packing materials and rounds up to the next whole pound.

Example: a 12 × 10 × 6 in box weighing 2.2 lb has a dim weight of 5.18 lb, so the billed weight is 5.18 + 0.25 rounded up to 6 lb, a $6.55 fee. Shrinking the box to 10 × 8 × 5 in drops dim weight to 2.88 lb and the billed weight to 4 lb, a $5.75 fee, saving $0.80 on every unit.

FAQ

Why is my billed weight higher than what the item weighs?

Two reasons. Walmart switches to dimensional weight when the box is large for its weight, and it always adds 0.25 lb for packing before rounding up. A 1.8 lb item in a small box bills at 3 lb, not 2.

Is a 31 lb item really cheaper than a 30 lb one?

Yes, on the current table. 30 lb is $15.55 + 9 × $0.40 = $19.15, while 31 lb starts the next tier at $14.55. Items 31 lb and up ship by ground, so delivery can take longer than two days. The calculator flags these step-downs when you're near one.

Does WFS charge the referral fee too?

Yes. The referral fee is Walmart's commission on every sale, whoever ships it. WFS fees come on top. Most categories are 15%, but many have lower rates or price bands, so enter your category's rate.

What does the return fee cover?

When a WFS order is returned for a reason that isn't Walmart's fault (wrong size, no longer wanted, not as expected), you pay a return processing fee based on the same shipping weight: $4.70 at 1 lb or less, $6.20 at 2 lb, $6.70 at 3 lb, then $7.00 + $0.40 per lb over 4 up to 20 lb, and the same rates as fulfillment above that. Walmart lists extra charges for apparel, hazmat and oversize returns without amounts, so this page assumes the same add-ons as fulfillment. Returns caused by Walmart (lost, damaged, late, wrong item) are waived.

What about long-term storage?

Since June 30, 2026, inventory stored 366 to 450 days pays $2.25 per cubic foot per month, and more than 450 days pays $7.50. This calculator assumes your stock sells within a year. If it doesn't, the storage line will be too low.

Is this my exact WFS charge?

It's a planning estimate built from Walmart's published table. Walmart's own WFS Cost Estimator in Seller Center and your settlement reports are the final word, and prep or inbound transfer charges aren't included.
