ThredUp seller fee calculator
Estimate ThredUp take-home two ways: Clean Out keep-% bands (you keep 3%–80% of final sale price) after the bag service fee, vs Direct Listing beta (0% seller fee). Spot band cliffs and how bag fees dilute across sold items. Nothing is uploaded.
Breakdown
How the numbers work
ThredUp is not a flat take-rate marketplace. Clean Out pays a keep percentage of the final selling price (after markdowns), then may deduct a bag service fee from bag earnings. Direct Listing (beta) is the opposite: you list and ship, and ThredUp’s help says sellers keep 100% of the selling price (buyer-side fee covers the platform).
- Clean Out payout bands (ThredUp Seller Terms schedule): $5–$19.99 → 3%–15%; $20–$49.99 → 15%–30%; $50–$99.99 → 30%–60%; $100–$199.99 → 60%–80%; $200+ → 80%. Value brands can pay $0.
- Service fee: $14.99 (Standard) or $34.99 (Premium), taken from earnings only after items sell. Help: if you earn less than the fee, you are not charged the difference. This tool amortizes the fee across N sold items sharing the bag (planning; ThredUp applies it at bag/earnings level).
- Direct Listing: 0% seller selling fee; $20 listing minimum. Ineligible under $20 → use Clean Out for bulk low-price clears.
- Band cliffs: mid-keep jumps at $20, $50, $100, and $200. Example: $19.99 mid (~9%) ≈ $1.80 before bag share; $20.00 mid (~22.5%) ≈ $4.50.
Unique angle vs ThredUp help/blog SERPs: live Clean Out low/mid/high keep + bag-fee share + Direct Listing side-by-side on every price, plus nearest band-cliff compare — not a static payout table.
Example: $40 Clean Out, mid keep (22.5%), Standard bag shared by 8 sold items → gross $9.00 − bag share $1.87 ≈ $7.13 keep. Same $40 on Direct Listing → $40.00 (0% seller fee).
Example: $200 Clean Out mid/high (80%) → gross $160; bag share on 8 items ≈ $1.87 → ~$158. Direct Listing → $200.

FAQ
Is the Clean Out % what ThredUp takes or what I keep?
What you keep. Seller Terms list “YOUR PAYOUT” as a percentage of selling price. On a $40 sale at 22.5% mid-band, gross payout is $9 before any bag service fee share — not a 22.5% marketplace take on top of a separate keep.
Why is each Clean Out band a range?
ThredUp publishes bands (e.g. 15%–30% for $20–$49.99). The exact % inside the band depends on brand, category, and demand — use their in-app earnings estimator for a specific item. This calculator lets you model low, mid, or high of the published range.
How does the bag service fee work?
Help (updated 2026-08-28): $14.99 Standard or $34.99 Premium is deducted from your earnings only after items sell. If earnings are under the fee, you are not charged the difference. Optional add-ons (extra bag, Uber pickup, reclaim) are separate. We spread the chosen bag fee across N sold items so you can see per-item dilution.
When does Direct Listing beat Clean Out?
Usually whenever the item is worth the photo/ship work and clears the $20 Direct Listing minimum. A $40 mid Clean Out keep (~$7–$9 after bag share) vs $40 Direct Listing is the gap the beta is built around. Under $20, Clean Out is the only path.
Why do band cliffs matter if ThredUp prices the item?
On Clean Out, ThredUp usually sets the list price and can markdown. Cliffs still matter for (1) Direct Listing pricing decisions and (2) reclaim / wait-for-sale choices near $20 / $50 / $100 / $200 where mid-keep jumps. The cliff rows always show mid-keep just below vs at the next band start.
Is this exact to my settled payout?
No. It is a planning estimate from published Seller Terms bands and Help bag fees (fetched 2026-09-29). Markdowns, value-brand $0, acceptance/rejection, consignment window unsolds, reclaim fees, and Direct Listing invite/beta rules can change the result.
