Breakdown
How the numbers work
Unlike Poshmark or eBay, The RealReal’s published “commission” is an earnings rate — the share you keep. RealStyle: “We pay between 20% – 70% based on your item’s value.” Algebra from consignor terms: Commission = Net Selling Price × applicable Commission Rate.
- Net Selling Price (NSP): final sold price after discounts/promotions, excluding tax and shipping. Markdowns lower your base.
- Clothing / shoes / accessories (RealStyle): 20% ($0–$99) → 30% ($100–$149) → 45% ($150–$199) → 55% ($200–$299) → 60% ($300–$749) → 65% ($750–$4,999) → 70% ($5,000+).
- Branded fine jewelry (RealStyle): same through $200–$299 at 55%, then 65% ($300–$749) and 70% ($750+) — no separate $5,000 clothing step.
- Loyalty (RealStyle): Trendsetter (none) → Influencer +1% → Tastemaker +2% → VIP +5%, based on net sales. Modeled here as percentage points added to the item band (planning). Confirm live chart for any band limits.
- Payout (payment-preference): direct deposit; site credit earns an extra 5% on your commission; check by mail has a $12.50 processing fee. Payments typically process on the 15th for the prior month’s sales.
Unique angle vs typical TRR fee blogs: this tool always shows (1) keep vs house remainder so you do not invert the %, (2) cash / site credit / check side-by-side, and (3) the nearest price-band cliff — e.g. clothing at $299 keeps 55% ($164.45) while $300 keeps 60% ($180.00).
Example: $400 clothing, Trendsetter, cash → band 60% → commission $240.00; house remainder $160.00. Same sale as site credit → $252.00. Same sale as check → $227.50.
Example: $800 branded fine jewelry, Trendsetter, cash → band 70% → commission $560.00.
Handbags, watches, and men’s sneakers/collectibles “will differ” per RealStyle — those grids are on the live commission chart (often behind bot protection). This page does not invent those percents.

FAQ
Is The RealReal “commission” what they take or what I keep?
What you keep. RealStyle says they pay between 20% and 70% based on item value. On a $400 clothing sale at 60%, your cash commission is $240 — The RealReal’s house remainder is $160. Do not paste a “they take 60%” blog number into a Poshmark-style worksheet.
What is Net Selling Price?
The sold price after discounts and promotions, excluding taxes and shipping. If TRR lists at $500 and sells at $400 after a markdown, your band and rate sit on $400.
Why does pricing just under a band edge matter?
Clothing jumps from 55% at $200–$299 to 60% at $300–$749. Jewelry jumps from 55% to 65% at $300. The cliff rows always show keep just below the next band vs at the band start so you can see whether a higher NSP (or waiting for a better sale price) is worth it — remembering TRR usually sets the price.
How does loyalty bonus work?
RealStyle lists four tiers by net sales: Trendsetter (no printed bonus), Influencer +1%, Tastemaker +2%, VIP +5%. This calculator adds those points to the base earnings rate as a planning switch. Match your My Sales rate and the live commission chart — TRR may update rules or limit bonuses by item band.
Cash vs site credit vs check?
Payment Options: site credit earns an extra 5% on your commission (good if you shop TRR). Check by mail takes 5–7 days and deducts a $12.50 processing fee. Direct deposit is the cash baseline. Commission payments are issued on the 15th of each month for the prior month’s sales.
Why aren’t handbags and watches in the dropdown?
RealStyle prints full grids only for clothing and branded fine jewelry, then says handbags, watches, and men’s sneakers/collectibles differ. Third-party blogs quote higher top bands (e.g. 80%+ handbags) but those are not used here. Open therealreal.com/commission-chart or Seller → Commissions while signed in.
Is this exact to my settled payout?
No. It is an estimate from RealStyle’s published clothing/jewelry tables and Payment Options (fetched 2026-09-28). Special promotions, Get Paid Now buyouts, early-return fees, chart updates, and loyalty band limits can change the result. Match a settled line in My Sales before you consign inventory.
