Swappa seller fee calculator

Estimate a US Swappa sale from the Ask Price: your 3% seller fee, PayPal vs Stripe processing on the buyer’s listing price (Ask + 3% buyer fee), what the buyer pays, and the Ask you need to hit a target net. Nothing is uploaded.

Solves Ask Price so net after Swappa + selected processor ≈ this target (0% sales tax assumption).

US rates from swappa.com/fees (fetched 2026-10-01): seller fee 3% of Ask Price; buyer fee 3% added to Ask → listing price; listing is free. Processing on the payment total (listing price + tax when applicable): PayPal 3.49% + $0.49; Stripe 2.9% + $0.30 (select sellers). This tool models 0% sales tax so PayPal/Stripe apply to listing price only — tax increases the processor fee in some states. Rates change; confirm on Swappa.

How the numbers work

Swappa splits a flat marketplace fee between buyer and seller. Your Ask Price drives both lines; payment processing is charged separately on the amount the buyer pays (listing price, plus tax when collected).

Unique angle vs thin Swappa fee calculators: every run shows Ask vs listing (buyer total before tax), PayPal vs Stripe keep side-by-side, effective rate of Ask, and reverse Ask-for-target-net — not just “3% + PayPal.”

Example (matches Swappa’s published $300 table): Ask $300 → listing $309. Seller fee $9.00. PayPal on $309 = $11.27. Keep $279.73 before ship/COGS. Effective fee rate of Ask ≈ 6.8%.

FAQ

Is the 3% seller fee on Ask or on the listing price?

On the Ask Price. Swappa’s fees page: sellers pay 3% of the Ask; buyers pay a separate 3% added to that Ask to form the listing price.

Why is PayPal charged on more than my Ask?

PayPal (and Stripe) charge on the payment total the buyer sends. That includes the buyer’s 3% Swappa fee, so the processor base is Ask × 1.03 (plus sales tax when collected). Swappa’s $300 example uses PayPal on $309.

Should I use PayPal or Stripe?

Most sellers use PayPal; Stripe is available to select sellers. Stripe’s 2.9% + $0.30 is usually cheaper on the same Ask — the compare rows show both keeps every time. Use whichever processor your account actually has enabled.

What is “Ask to hit target net”?

It solves for Ask so Ask − 3%×Ask − processor(Ask×1.03) equals your target net (0% tax). Useful when you know what you want to walk away with and need a competitive Ask.

Does sales tax reduce my payout?

Swappa collects marketplace facilitator tax from the buyer where required; it does not come out of your Ask as a seller fee. Tax can still raise the payment total and therefore the PayPal/Stripe fee — this calculator assumes 0% tax so your estimate is a planning floor.

Is this exact to my settled payout?

No. It is a planning estimate from swappa.com/fees (fetched 2026-10-01). Sales tax, currency, refunds, and processor rule changes can differ. Match the live checkout / payout before you set inventory prices.
