Breakdown
How the numbers work
Reverb stacks two fees on every US Reverb Payments sale. The selling fee and the processing fee use different bases:
- 5% selling fee on item price + shipping charged to the buyer. Floor $0.50, ceiling $500 (USD listings up to a $10,000 sale amount for the max). Listing is free.
- Payment processing on the full order including tax: 3.19% + $0.49 standard, or 2.99% + $0.49 as a Preferred Seller.
- Optional Bump is a seller-chosen percent of the sale (item + shipping) when that promotion is attached to the sold listing.
- Optional +1% cross-border processing when buyer and seller bank countries differ (EEA domestic pairs excluded).
Example: $650 guitar + $25 shipping, no tax, standard tier, no bump. Selling fee 5% of $675 = $33.75. Processing 3.19% of $675 + $0.49 = $22.02. Total fees $55.77. You keep $619.23 before product and postage costs.
High-ticket note: a $12,000 sale would be 5% = $600 raw, but the selling fee caps at $500. Low-ticket note: anything under $10 of item+shipping hits the $0.50 floor.
FAQ
Does the 5% include shipping?
Yes. Reverb assesses the selling fee on the total sale amount including shipping. Tax is not part of that selling-fee base in Reverb’s fee docs; tax is included in the separate payment-processing base.
What does Preferred Seller change?
Only the processing rate: 2.99% + $0.49 instead of 3.19% + $0.49. The 5% selling fee, $0.50 minimum, and $500 maximum stay the same.
When does the $500 selling-fee cap matter?
When 5% of item + shipping would exceed $500 — roughly sales above $10,000 of that base. The cap stays $500 even if the sale is larger. This tool flags when the floor or ceiling is applied.
Is Bump included automatically?
No. Enter a percent only if that listing sold with a Bump. Reverb lets you choose the bump rate (often around 5% suggested in their UI); leave it at 0 if you did not promote.
Is this exact to the penny Reverb will take?
No. It is an estimate from published US Reverb Help rates (selling fee article, processing fee article, Preferred Seller article). Currency conversion (2.5%), PayPal-only processing, VAT on fees, label purchases, and refunds can change the real payout. Confirm on Reverb Help and your Earnings page.
