Breakdown
How the numbers work
For a typical US Mercari sale on a listing created or updated on or after January 6, 2025:
- 10% selling fee on item price plus whatever shipping the buyer pays. Free shipping does not dodge the fee on the item itself; it only keeps shipping out of the fee base because the buyer paid $0 for shipping.
- No separate seller payment-processing fee on those listings. Mercari Help moved processing off the seller side.
- Cash-out: standard direct deposit is $0. Instant Pay is a flat $3 per cash-out (up to $600/month on eligible debit cards).
Example: a $45 item + $5 buyer-paid shipping. Fee base = $50. Selling fee = $5.00. You keep $45.00 before product cost (and before any Instant Pay). If you had wrongly applied 10% to the item only, you would understate fees by $0.50.
Buyers on those listings may pay a separate 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on item + buyer-paid shipping. That line is charged to the buyer at checkout and is not taken from your seller payout.
FAQ
Is shipping really in the 10% fee base?
Yes. Mercari Help states the selling fee is 10% of the item price + buyer-paid shipping. If the buyer pays $8 shipping on a $40 item, the fee is 10% of $48 = $4.80.
What if I offer free shipping?
The fee applies only to the item price (buyer-paid shipping is $0). You still pay the postage yourself, so enter that under “Shipping you pay” to see true profit.
Does Mercari still charge 2.9% + $0.50?
Not as a seller fee on new or updated listings after January 6, 2025. That old processing model applied on the buyer side for older listings until they were updated. This calculator uses the current seller-side 10% structure.
Is Instant Pay part of every sale?
No. Leave it unchecked unless you plan to Instant Pay that balance out. Standard ACH cash-out is free ($2 only if a deposit fails).
Is this exact to the penny Mercari will take?
No. It is an estimate using published US rates from Mercari Help. Promotions, Smart Pricing discounts, cancelation fees, label overages, and Instant Pay limits can change the payout. Check Mercari’s Fees on Mercari page before you list.
