Per order, excluding monthly fees. AbeBooks Basic: 15% (10% over $500) of book + shipping + $1/item. AbeBooks Premium: 8% (min $0.50, max $40) + 5.5% processing (min $0.50). PangoBooks: 20% of the sale (min $0.40); the buyer-paid label replaces your shipping charge and postage, so only book price and book cost count.
How the numbers work
Biblio charges commission per item on the book price plus shipping, capped at $40 per item. When a buyer pays through Biblio's checkout, a processing fee is also taken on the whole order (all books and shipping).
- Option A: $5 a month for up to 150,000 books ($10 for the first 150,000 plus $3 per extra 100,000). 12% commission and a $0.25 closing fee per item sold.
- Option B: $15 a month up to 10,000 books, $20 to 20,000, $25 to 30,000, $30 to 40,000, then $5 more per 10,000 books, never above $500. 8% commission with a $0.50 minimum per item.
- Processing: Biblio checkout 5.5% of the first $500 of the order plus $0.20, and 3.5% above $500. ABAA.org checkout 4.5% plus $0.10, and 3.0% above $500. None when you take payment yourself through Dealer Direct.
Example: a $15 book with $4.50 shipping is $19.50. Option A takes $2.34 commission + $0.25 closing + $1.27 processing = $3.86. Option B takes $1.56 + $1.27 = $2.83, plus the monthly fee. Option B saves $1.03 a book, so at 2,000 listings ($15 vs $5 a month) it pays off from the 10th book of the month.
Option A's commission hits the $40 cap at about $333 per item, and Option B's at $500. Above those points both plans charge the same $40, so Option B only costs you its higher monthly fee.
FAQ
What are Biblio's seller fees?
Biblio has two billing options. Option A: $5 a month for up to 150,000 books, 12% commission on book price plus shipping, and a $0.25 closing fee per item sold. Option B: a monthly fee from $15 based on books listed (maximum $500), 8% commission on book price plus shipping with a $0.50 minimum per item. Both cap commission at $40 per item. When Biblio processes the payment it also charges 5.5% of the first $500 of the order plus $0.20 per transaction, and 3.5% on the portion over $500.
When is Biblio Option B cheaper than Option A?
Option B saves about 4% of each item's book-plus-shipping amount plus the $0.25 closing fee, but costs at least $10 more a month. On a $15 item that is roughly $0.85 saved per book, so Option B wins from about 12 books a month at up to 10,000 listings. Plan changes take effect at the start of the next month.
Does Biblio charge commission on shipping?
Yes. Biblio's commission is charged on book price and shipping, and its payment processing fee is charged on the whole transaction, which includes all books and shipping in the order. If your shipping charge only just covers postage, the fees on it come out of your margin.
What is a Dealer Discount sale?
Biblio doesn't charge commission when you sell to another Biblio dealer at the Dealer Discount you offer. The calculator sets commission to $0 for those sales and assumes the closing fee and processing still apply. Check your order details if that matters to you.
Why do some Biblio pages show 4.5% or 5% plus $0.35 processing?
An older Biblio FAQ still lists 4.5% or 5% plus $0.35. The current billing options page and the help article updated for January 2025 list 5.5% of the first $500 plus $0.20 per transaction and 3.5% above $500. This calculator uses the current figures.
Is this the exact amount Biblio will deduct?
No. It is an estimate from Biblio's published USD rates. Rounding, refunds, coupons and how Biblio splits shipping across items can change the result a little. Check Account > Payments > Itemized Order History for the real figures.
